Seven named NTCA All-Academic

Seven members of the Jennies 08-09 squad have recieved All-Academic honors from the National Tenpin Coaches Association.

Alyssa Surges leads the way by being named to the second-team, and Natalie Cortese was selected to the third-team.

Named honorable mention were Amanda Cortese, Jamie Mitchell, Robin Noland, Rachel Rothermel, and Allison Scully.

Pendleton Protests

The students at Pendleton Heights High School are protesting the fact that they will not be showing President Obama's speech during school. They were given a letter Friday giving them reasons they would not be allowed to watch the speech when it aired, and now some students are taking action.

Their Facebook group "Obama's Speech Protest" currently has 42 confirmed protesters. The information in their group discription is:

"Obama's education speech is for us but our school didn’t let us have any say in whether we watched it or not. We were allowed to watch the inauguration but we can’t watch his speech (which they even explained as a historical event in the newsletter). Even if you don’t like President Obama or don’t really care about hearing the speech it’s the fact that we had no say in something that was planed for us. Not only that but they passed out papers at the end of the day on Friday when the speech is planed for the next school day. Obviously they did that on purpose so we wouldn’t have time to do anything about it.

If you want to help support after third period on Tuesday we are meeting in the main hallway and sitting on the floor. We are going to sit there until they let us watch the speech."

It's that time again...

Hello world!!! Greetings from Missouri. :)

This year is off to a good start. Sorority recruitment is over and we did our best recruitment that we have in THREE YEARS! Exciting! I have a new daughter, too. Her name is Makayla and she's adorable!! She's actually roommates in Houts/Hosey with one of the new freshman on the bowling team. Small world huh?

I had a birthday. In fact it was yesterday!! I'm old as dirt, now. 21. How ridiculous! It was a pretty laid back day since I was (am) sick and so is everyone else in my sorority [and on campus]. The health center is completely booked for the rest of the week. Lame. No worries. I'll live, I'm sure. :)

I thought I would end with a fitting video from freshman year. One of the guys on my floor played me happy birthday; it's pretty nice. lol. Enjoy! and happy day after my birthday!!!

Since I've arrived back to Indiana, I have jumped into wedding mode! I hadn't been in town 24 hours when I went ribbon shopping and made bridesmaid gifts with Bridey and the lovely Matron of Honor. :)

So far it's been pretty carefree being back. I've enjoyed some time off school as well as work. Hopefully I will have a job this summer that is at least a little worth while. I hope to find something other than working at the theater this year, but it wasn't that bad of a job {just didn't reallly pay me anything}, but who doesn't love free movies for you and all your friends? If all else fails I hopefully will get a job at Guitar Center since Ron's got the big time corporate job now! {woot}

I've seen many important people since I've been home I saw Sophie for a bit and watched a movie, saw Nick when I got my Mac fixed {fo' free}, and hung out watching Sex and the City with B'randon. I've hung out with the fam. Of course. They're the best! :) I ended up seeing my friend Jessica in Hobby Lobby today, as well.

The party plannig has hit full swing these past couple days. The bachelorette party will be in downtown Indy, but of course the day will start off with mani's and pedi's at the Salon Academy off Scatterfield Rd. We're going to eat din at Weber Grill which I've never been to, but April's work friends say it's great. From then on there will a bar crawl... which I sadly am 4 months too young to participate in. :( Sad day. Hopefully Xtine will have a wonderful bachelorette party! :)

Who's a junior?

Today concludes my stay here at UCM for my sophomore year. Houts/Hosey has been good to me, but I will be living in the Panhellenic housing next year.

Due to so many graphic/printing projects that we put off, I have NOTHING packed. I'm going to have about 12 hours to pack up my life ... starting at like 5AM. The parentals arrived in the Burg around 11:45PM with pizza I ordered! To scrounge on the dollars they are lodging in my room. Since I have another ex-roommate this year, I have a spare bed and a full-sized air mattress. When planning this, I must have forgotten about dad's snoring. :O

Tomorrow is a big day. I leave the people I love to go see the people I love... it's win/win, lose/lose. Rough. As far as I know Michael will be joining me again this summer around the 4th of July season. I don't think he'll make it to the wedding. sad.

Anyway, for those of you in Andersonland, I will be home soon. Less than 24 hours. Get excited.

The University of Central Missouri is doing its part to help minimize the potential impact of the H1N1 virus while globally health care and public health professionals work to contain the virus. As a result, and solely as a precautionary measure, the commencement ceremony will include a cordial and congratulatory nod of the head from the university president instead of the traditional handshake.

To limit possible spread of any virus and safeguard the health of those in attendance, notices will be posted at all entrances to the Multipurpose Building asking persons who exhibit any flu-like symptoms to please go home to minimize exposure to others. They are encouraged to view the event by following steps outlined at www.ucmo.edu

finals, finals, finals!

As it turns out, I don't really have any difficult finals. What seems to be taking up more time than I would like is my special project class Grap4040. Barabas has achieved the best kind of putting off there is, and my free time was taken with it. I made NINE screens for printing last week while waiting for my t-shirts to arrive (this is the time we SHOULD have been doing our offset printing) Sadly we are not even starting our offset until tomorrow afternoon. I still have to pack up my life!! And see some of my friends before I leave the state... and SLEEP! Lord Almighty!

Anyway, this photo is the interworkings of an offset press. Offset is where the inked image is transferred (or "offset") from a plate to a rubber blanket, then to the printing surface. When used in combination with the lithographic process, which is based on the repulsion of oil and water, the offset technique employs a flat (planographic) image carrier on which the image to be printed obtains ink from ink rollers, while the non-printing area attracts a water-based film (called "fountain solution"), keeping the non-printing areas ink-free.

Ira Washington Rubel invented the first offset printing press in 1903.

Alright, so this is my booklet I made hastily for my graphics project [the last one, thank goodness!] I couldn't think of anything with a lot of text I could use, so what better than my sister's wedding for a theme!? I don't know what I'm going to do after all these weddings are over for my graphics projects. ha. They kind of take over my brain. Can't help it! Anyway, I thought that at least Chrissy would enjoy seeing it. Voila!

Addie and Alex

Addie is one of my sorority sisters. Her and her boyfriend Alex asked me to take some pictures of them earlier this week. Alex is only in town for a week [it was his birthday]; he leaves Friday for Iraq. He serves our country in the USMC. Not only are they both amazing people, the love you see in their pictures isn't staged. I think they're beautiful.

Cook it

Today on campus, everyone is a buzz! Sadly, it's not very exciting to me [because I'm not any kind of American Idol watcher], but David Cook has finally come to his alma mater, UCM. An interesting fact--Cook was a Phi Sigma Kappa, and his brother is here and a phi sig as well. The concert was tonight at 7:30 PM. There were some crazies that had a tent set up about 24 hours in advance to be the first in the door. [This is nuts cause Hendricks Hall is really not that large... you'll be able to see wherever you end up!] Tickets were up for grabs--kind of. Students got first stab at all tickets except you had to fill out a bunch of forms, have a copy of your license, and then you got a ticket if you were chosen from the drawing. This was obviously too much work--proven to me by the e-mail I recieved yesterday saying they still had 30 tickets for sale. I only wish I would've bought my $15 ticket, because people have been selling theirs for at least $100 a piece! [oh hinsight]

Consiquently, there is not very much parking left here in the Burg. :P

Formal Oh Nine

 

Last night was my second AGD formal.  :)  Michael Huskey accompanied me for the second year, and it was even better this year than last!  Afterward Sam, Dan, Mike and I hung out in my room, ordered pizza, and watched some Juno.  Everyone looked beautiful; I think it was a success!  <3

The Faith House?

Unbeknownst to me, apparently Tony Dungy was offered a place on Obama's newly created White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Am I the only person that remembers that there is supposed to be a seperation of church and state? Cause this seems to be crossing the line a bit.

The phrase "separation of church and state" is derived from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to a group identifying themselves as the Danbury Baptists. In that letter, referencing the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, Jefferson writes:

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State"

First Amendment to the United States Constitution --

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Justice David Souter, writing for the majority [of the sumpreme court], concluded that "government should not prefer one religion to another, or religion to irreligion"

Ugh! I've been photoshopping ALL night! I am personally responsible for my wonderful friend Christopher's senior photos (which were taken in August/January/March). Unfortuately his parents only want one 8x10? I have no clue. Anyway, I got some good shots of him. Here's one for your viewing pleasure!

So apparently my sorority is now offering badges in silver and white gold! I want one a whole lot now! rawr. This badge has a Tiffany Pearl in the middle. In 10K white gold it is on sale for $126 and in sterling silver it is now on sale for $94.50. I want one!! :)

I'm pretty sure that I should own this here ring. I found it searching for ideas for the notepads I'm designing before 10AM today. This is where I stumbled upon it's beautiful presence.

These two graphics are a shirt that I designed featuring a quote that the team uses frequently. The quote will be large and fill up the front of the shirt and then the circle with everyone's name on it will be place on the back of the shirt. I think this t-shirt design is my favorite, so far.

This week as just gotten very stressful. I was sick-ish [couldn't stop coughing, which in turn made my lower back in a lot of pain] on Mondy and sleep deprived from the early morning Easter service I'd gone to at 6:30 am the day before. We had the single longest sorority meeting EVER. Had to buy things [T-shirt, of course] for my "secret squirrel" because the moved the day on me! ...painted a basket for her, too.

Initiation Week is this week as well, so ceremonies started today and will continue until Friday and then IRD is Saturday morning. On top of this I need to have all of the designs for my special projects class in by Thursday, so that my teacher can out-put the films / positives for me. I need to get orders and money and purchase t-shirts and hoodies. It's going to be very stressful.

Nebraska Wins 2009 National Bowling Title

Sadly the Central Missouri bowling Jennies did not clentch the title in tonight's match. In fact every year UCM has been 1st runner-up it has been to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. UCM [CMSU at the time] won the women's bowling title in 2003 before there was an NCAA championship. They last competed for the final spot in 2004 and 2005--both times against Nebraska, so today seems like history repeating. It was an upset, but 2nd in the nation is a better finish than our previous consecutive 5th place finishes. I'm very proud of the girls and think they all did very well. Sadly this is where the road ends for our four seniors.

2009 NCAA Women's Bowling Nationals Update III

UCM's Bowling Jennies finished their bowling meet around 6:30 EST today defeating Fairleigh Dickinson 4-3 in the 7 game bakers match! Nebraska also defeated Delaware State 4-2 and will be Central's rivals in the final Championship match tonight at 8 pm EST on ESPN2. GO JENNIES!!!

2009 NCAA Women's Bowling Nationals Update II

Ladies and Gentlemen! The ladies of the UCM Bowling Jennies have surpassed their rankings from that past ...3? years I think! (we keep getting 5th) Anyway, this is very exciting and you can watch and see if we make it to the final round at 5pm EST tomorrow!!! Get pumped!! We're at least 4th in the nation! :)

If you click on this photo it will become lager, but this is my update. University of Central Missouri has finished the placement round [which doesn't have wins/losses - it's a total pin fall count for ranking] UCM placed 6th, as you can see in the bracket. Our first match tomorrow at 9:30 am EST is against University of Maryland Eastern Shore, who were the 2008 National Champs. Hopefully our girls will start strong, but even still, the bracket is double elimination! There is supposedly a live video stream via New Jersey City Uni. but I'm guessing it will be mainly of them. You can find that here. Otherwise there is the NCAA Bowling page, which was frightfully bare, and lacking information. I will try to keep it updated tomorrow, but I will be headed to Iowa! Rock on I-states!

Why FINGERS?

Today my friend Nick exposed me to the craziness that is in fact Vibram Five Fingers. These bad boys are supposed to be "barefoot shoes." And when you're barefoot "your movements become the movements of a child--playful and sensitive, yet purposeful and confident." However, if you are actually a child you cannot own these babies, because they run from $75-$90 [plus shipping and handling, of course.] I don't know how I feel about the individual toe thing, but the idea sounds interesting. They'd be great for rock climbing and surfing though! I hope these "shoes" make you smile!

I still can't figure out why they're not Five Toes, though. [shrug]

Interview Thursday

"Another staff person who you will meet regularly is the Office Assistant (OA). OAs are students who work at the front desk in your building. The desk is staffed 24 hours a day all days that you are here. OA’s answer questions, distribute mail, complete office work and most importantly monitor your safety. They make sure the fire safety equipment is monitored at all times. They provide services to you as a resident like selling stamps, making change, checking out equipment and much more. You too can become an OA; applications are usually available at your front desk or from your Residence Hall Director."

I applied this week for an Office Assistant position for next year. I only applied Friday, and got an e-mail to make an appointment for an interview today. But, then, the guy from the office called me, so hopefully they're targeting me! This way I can get around 20 hours minimum wage during school for some spending money. Sounds good to me! :) Plus you just sit there, so it's prime homework time! Rock on.

Nabokov

Lolita (1955) is a novel by Vladimir, first written in English and published in 1955 in Paris. The book is both internationally famous for its innovative style and infamous for its controversial subject: the narrator and protagonist, Humbert Humbert, becomes obsessed with a 12-year-old girl named Dolores Haze (aka Lolita.)

We are currently about a fourth of the way into this novel, Lolita, in my American Lit. class. It seemed fairly interesting (and creepy) so last night my friend Shannon and I rented the movie from the JCK Library (1962 version) - between the b&w and the terrible acting we soon ventured out to Blockbuster to rent the 1997 version which was MUCH better. And as an added bonus had the girl from Working Girl in it - (Melanie Griffith) This version also seems to be a much closer match to the book.

I was also made to watch the movie Twilight last night with Shannon and Sam I laughed the practically the entire time. I don't think I should be allowed to watch it with an actual fan. :P

Ladies and gentlemen let the weddings begin!!! I just recieved an e-mail saying that my 2nd bridesmaid dress is here!

Both are lovely. The one to the left is a from David's Bridal. "Sleeveless short brocade dress with roll over collar, v-back and full box pleated skirt" The one to your right is from a Watters & Watters collection. "Dupioni Silk and Leaver Lace. This strapless gown features a crumb catcher bodice, dropped waist and a dupioni silk sash and knee-length skirt."

I'm very excited to wear both of these dresses; however I'm more excited to be at these weddings!!

My replacement-replacement-replacement phone!

So, so far this is the replacement phone that I have that actually works! This is an LG Chocolate VX8550. My previous phone was the VX 8500 - the very first chocolate... it was RED and beautiful. I was actually given a Maroon VX8550, but it had issues and had to be replaced with this black one. Hopefully this phone won't crap out on me. I was offered a brand new chocolate 3 but I don't like the flip phone... plus it's huge! I opted for my 3 referbished phone, which seems to be working out fairly well.
I'm hoping that this one behaves itself so that I might be able to settle down with my phone. I want to prevent it from being scratched to hell, so I've been looking into the invisibleSHILD [by Zagg]. Sadly the older chocolate and chocolate 3 are both on clearence for like $7, but the chocolate 2 seemes to be still trendy, because it's still about $25.

Here's to not dropping my phone before I can get an invisibleSHILD for it!!
